Hoe een Renovatiesloper een Tokenizer werd

In gesprek met Barry de Bruin, directeur RAZE Renovatiesloop

Wie RAZE Renovatiesloop kent, denkt in eerste instantie niet aan FinTech of tokenisatie. Toch is precies daar de afgelopen periode een ontwikkeling ontstaan. Niet vanuit de technologie, maar vanuit een praktische ondernemersvraag.

Barry de Bruin vertelt dat het eigenlijk begon met digitalisering van zijn eigen organisatie. “We waren al langer bezig om processen beter te organiseren. Software helpt ons om projecten, calculaties en planning strak te structureren. Vanuit dat traject kwamen we in contact met ByeleX.”

Tijdens dat traject ontstond een nieuw idee. Als projecten steeds digitaler worden georganiseerd, waarom zou de participatiestructuur dan nog traditioneel blijven?

“Dat was voor mij een logische volgende stap,” zegt De Bruin. “We zijn een franchise aan het bouwen. Dan ga je nadenken over hoe je participaties en eigendom goed organiseert. Daar kwam tokenisatie in beeld.”

De basis daarvoor bestond al. Het platform van Liqwith ‘Plaza PLUS’ was eerder ontwikkeld door ByeleX, maar had als functie om een specifieke klant per keer te bedienen. Bijvoorbeeld zonneparken in Engeland.

Dat verschil werd bepalend voor de volgende stap. Aanvankelijk wilde De Bruin het platform vooral gebruiken voor zijn eigen organisatie. “Mijn eerste gedachte was simpel: dit gebruiken we voor RAZE en voor onze franchise. Dat was het plan.” Maar toen het systeem eenmaal stond, veranderde het perspectief.

De Bruin:“Toen we het echt zagen werken, realiseerden we ons dat het eigenlijk veel breder toepasbaar is. Niet alleen voor renovatiesloop. Dit kan ook voor vastgoed, industrie, maritiem, leisure en glastuinbouw.” Vanaf dat moment begon het platform zich te ontwikkelen van een tool tot een infrastructuur.

De verdere ontwikkeling gebeurt nu door het team van Liqwith, die dit weer heeft uitbesteed aan ByeleX. “Samen werken we aan de volgende stap. De FinTech kennis van Liqwith voorziet in de ervaring die nodig is om het platform verder uit te bouwen.”Parallel daaraan wordt er door Liqwith gewerkt aan de toegang tot het platform, governance en veiligheid.

“We hebben een model ontwikkeld waarbij adviseurs projecten kunnen begeleiden naar het platform,” zegt De Bruin. “Dat is belangrijk, want technologie alleen is niet genoeg. Je hebt mensen nodig die projecten structureren en begeleiden.” Op dit moment bevindt het initiatief zich in een fase waarin de eerste projecten worden voorbereid.

“Het eerste project wordt nu klaargemaakt om te worden geplaatst,” vertelt De Bruin. “Tegelijk voeren we gesprekken met verschillende partijen die willen aansluiten.”

Wat begon als een vraag rond digitalisering van een renovatiesloopbedrijf, groeide zo uit tot een platform dat meerdere sectoren kan verbinden.

Volgens De Bruin is het eigenlijk heel eenvoudig. “Je begint met een praktisch probleem in je eigen bedrijf. En voor je het weet bouw je iets waar veel meer partijen iets aan hebben.”

‘Samenwerken met goede mensen en complexe problemen oplossen is leuk’

“Ik ben min of meer vanzelf in de softwareontwikkeling beland. Ik denk dat dit vaak het geval is als je echt plezier beleeft aan het maken van computerprogramma’s en -systemen.”

Het begon allemaal eind jaren tachtig, toen ik op de middelbare school zat

‘Ik begon met het leren van BASIC op een Yamaha MSX2, een Japanse computer die in die tijd vrij zeldzaam was op scholen in Oost Europa. Later ging ik naar een school met gespecialiseerde lessen in natuurkunde en wiskunde, en van daaruit was de volgende stap programmeerwedstrijden.’
Competitief programmeren bleek buitengewoon verslavend te zijn. Oudere vrienden en leraren leerden Sergey wiskunde en algoritmen, en uiteindelijk won hij verschillende wedstrijden. Als gevolg daarvan werd Sergey zonder toelatingsexamen toegelaten tot de faculteit Toegepaste Wiskunde en Informatica van de Wit-Russische Staatsuniversiteit.

‘De universiteit geeft je een beroep. Het mijne is, althans officieel, “wiskundige en systeemprogrammeur”. Op deze manier leidde mijn fascinatie voor wiskunde en het oplossen van problemen me op natuurlijke wijze naar de softwareontwikkelingsindustrie.’

In 2001 werd Sergey gerekruteerd door een van zijn professoren

Deze professor was betrokken bij het bouwen van een expertsysteem voor ByeleX. Zijn allereerste taak? Een nieuwe versie van dat systeem implementeren in Java, zodat het via internet toegankelijk werd.

ByeleX

Na vele jaren van samenwerking denkt Sergey niet meer in termen van locaties. ‘Er is geen ByeleX Nederland-team en geen ByeleX Oost-Europa-team. Het is gewoon één groot team dat vanuit twee kantoren werkt.’ Die mentaliteit komt tot uiting in de manier waarop projecten worden aangepakt: gedeelde verantwoordelijkheid, open discussie en een sterk gevoel van collectief eigenaarschap.

Zakenreizen naar Nederland hebben hun sporen nagelaten, maar niet noodzakelijkerwijs op de verwachte manier. ‘Ja, Amsterdam bracht een paar “schokkende momenten” met zich mee, maar verder niet boeiend.’ Wat hem bijbleef, zijn eenvoudige indrukken: het uitzicht vanuit het vliegtuig tijdens de landing, de charme van kleinere steden en de vriendelijkheid van de mensen. ‘Het is gewoon een leuke plek om te zijn.’

Projecten om trots op te zijn

In de loop der jaren heeft Sergey aan veel projecten gewerkt waar hij trots op is. Een voorbeeld hiervan is KCStreet voor ArboNed. Het project ging in juni 2007 van start en is uitgegroeid tot een groot, complex softwaresysteem dat technologisch is geëvolueerd – van Java 6, Java EE en EJB 2.1 naar Java 17, Spring Boot en Docker. Het is het resultaat van de gezamenlijke inspanningen van veel bekwame engineers en heeft de klant bijna 18 jaar lang goed gediend. Het is het soort project dat in de loop van de tijd stilletjes zijn waarde bewijst. “Niet iets waar ik op een feestje over zou praten”, geeft hij toe. “Het is gewoon te serieus – en misschien een beetje saai.”

‘Aan de andere kant van het spectrum was er nog een ander project waar ik trots op ben – en dat veel leuker was – namelijk een GPU-miner-applicatie.’ Dit was een kort project in 2014. Op dat moment domineerden AMD GPU’s duidelijk de GPU-mining. Sergey wist niets van het onderwerp en begreep niet waarom NVIDIA deze concurrentiestrijd aan het verliezen was. Hij leerde zichzelf GPU-programmeren in C/C++ en NVIDIA CUDA en implementeerde de miningberekeningen in Java met een standaard cryptografiebibliotheek. Met behulp van reverse-engineered algoritmen slaagde hij erin om een werkende miner te bouwen. Deze versloeg nooit de voor AMD geoptimaliseerde implementaties, maar gaf wel antwoord op de vraag waarom. En voor Sergey was dat de moeite waard.

Een project kan niet complex genoeg zijn

‘Ik heb van een professor die het menselijk brein bestudeert gehoord dat mensen een uitdagend probleem nodig hebben om op te lossen. Dat is waar, althans voor mij.’ Uitdagende problemen stimuleren het brein, zelfs als ze stress met zich meebrengen. Complexe problemen kunnen het beste worden opgelost als er iemand is om mee te sparren. Vaak is een goede oplossing een gezamenlijke inspanning die uiteindelijk resulteert in een succesvolle implementatie.

Dus al met al – samenwerken met goede mensen om complexe problemen op te lossen en vervolgens te zien hoe de nieuwe software werkt is leuk.

Huidige projecten

Sergey is momenteel betrokken bij meerdere projecten, waaronder Byecoin, dat onlangs een aantal bevredigende technische uitdagingen opleverde. En daarna? Hij hoopt op iets dat nog complexer is. ‘Laten we het afwachten, fingers crossed.’

Privé

‘Ik ben al 29 jaar samen met mijn vrouw. Zij is net zo’n workaholic als ik, dus in dat opzicht passen we perfect bij elkaar. Ik sport regelmatig, meestal ongeveer vijf keer per week. Vroeger deed ik aan vechtsporten, maar dat bleek niet de gezondste vorm van lichaamsbeweging te zijn – althans niet voor mij. Tegenwoordig zwem ik en doe ik aan cardiotraining. Ik kan niet zeggen dat ik er erg van geniet. Dat geldt vooral op vrijdagavond, wanneer de tv en de bank een veel aantrekkelijkere keuze lijken terwijl ik op weg ben naar het zwembad. Maar achteraf voelt het goed en het helpt me om met stress om te gaan. Dus ik probeer het vol te houden en beschouw het als een soort onderhoud.

Ik heb niet echt een hobby in de traditionele zin van het woord – voor mij veranderen hobby’s vaak in projecten. Mijn huidige project is bijvoorbeeld het bouwen van een apparaat voor het verwarmingssysteem in mijn huis. Daarvoor moet ik embedded programmeren voor microcontrollers in Rust (bare-metal, zelfgeschreven firmware), wat solderen en me verdiepen in schema’s, datasheets en OpenTherm-protocolspecificaties. Hoewel het erg technisch klinkt, is het een compleet nieuw gebied voor mij – en dat maakt het juist zo leuk.

Leven buiten de techwereld?

Als ik even snel nadenk, kan ik me een aantal opties buiten programmeren en IT voorstellen, maar die vallen nog steeds onder de bredere definitie van ‘werken in de techwereld’. Eigenlijk zou ik nog steeds technische problemen oplossen.

It all started in the late 1980s, when I was in middle school

‘I began by learning BASIC on a Yamaha MSX2 — a Japanese computer that was quite rare in schools in the USSR at that time. I later entered a school with specialized classes in physics and mathematics, and from there the next step was programming contests.’
Competitive programming turned out to be extremely addictive. Older friends and teachers taught Sergey mathematics and algorithms, and he eventually won several contests. As a result, Sergey was admitted to the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at Belarusian State University without entrance exams.

‘University gives you a profession. Mine, at least officially, is “mathematician and systems programmer”. In this way, my fascination with mathematics and problem-solving naturally led me into the software development industry.’

This professor was involved in building an expert system for Byelex. His very first task? Implementing a new version of that system in Java, making it accessible via the internet.

ByeleX

After many years of collaboration, Sergey no longer thinks in terms of locations. ‘There is no ByeleX Netherlands team, and no ByeleX Eastern Europe team. It’s just one big team working from two offices.’ That mindset shows in how projects are approached: shared responsibility, open discussion and a strong sense of collective ownership.

Business trips to the Netherlands left their mark — though not necessarily in the expected ways. ‘Yes, Amsterdam came with a few “shocking moments,”’ but Sergey quickly dismisses that as uninteresting. What stayed with him instead are simpler impressions: the view from the plane while landing, the charm of smaller cities, and the friendliness of people. ‘It’s just a nice place to visit.’

Projects to be Proud of

Over the years Sergey worked on many projects he is proud of. One example is KCStreet for ArboNed. First committed in June 2007, it has grown into a large, complex software system that has evolved technologically — from Java 6, Java EE and EJB 2.1 to Java 17, Spring Boot and Docker. It represents the combined effort of many skilled engineers and has served the customer well for almost 18 years. It is the kind of project that quietly proves its value over time. ‘Not something I’d talk about at a party,’ he admits. ‘It’s simply too serious — and maybe a bit boring.’

‘From the opposite side of the spectrum, yet another project I am proud of — and one that was much more fun — was a GPU miner application.’ This was a short project back in 2014. At the time, AMD GPUs clearly dominated GPU mining. Sergey knew nothing about the topic and was puzzled why NVIDIA was losing this competition. He taught himself GPU programming in C/C++ and NVIDIA CUDA and implemented the mining calculations in Java with standard cryptography library. Using reverse-engineered algorithms he managed to built a working miner from scratch. It never beat AMD-optimized implementations — but it did answer the why. And for Sergey, that made it worthwhile.

A Project can not be Complex enough

‘I have heard from a professor who studies human’s brain, that people need a challenging problem to solve. This is true, at least for me.’ Challenging problems stimulate the brain — even if they come with stress. Complex problems are best solved when there is somebody to discuss such a problem with. Quite often a good solution is a mutual effort which eventually ends in a successful implementation.

So, all in all – working together with good people while solving complex problems and then watching how the new software is working is fun.

Current Projects

Sergey is currently involved in multiple projects, including Byecoin, which recently delivered some satisfying engineering challenges. And beyond that? He hopes for something even more complex. ‘So let’s see, fingers crossed.’

Personal Life

‘I’ve been married once, for 29 years now. My wife is pretty much the same kind of workaholic as I am, so in that sense we’re a perfect match. I exercise regularly, usually about five times a week. In the past it was martial arts, but that turned out not to be the healthiest kind of physical activity — at least for me. These days I swim and do some cardio training. I can’t say I enjoy it very much. This is especially true on Friday evenings, when the TV and sofa look like a much better choice while I’m on my way to the swimming pool. But it feels good afterwards, and it helps me cope with stress. So I try to keep it up and think of it as a kind of maintenance procedure.

I don’t really have a hobby in the traditional sense — for me, hobbies tend to turn into projects. For example, my current project is building a device for the heating system in my house. It involves embedded programming for microcontrollers in Rust (bare-metal, self-written firmware), some soldering, and digging into schematics, datasheets, and OpenTherm protocol specifications. Although it sounds very technical, it’s a completely new area for me — and that’s what makes it fun.’

Life beyond Tech?

‘With a bit of quick thinking, I can imagine some options outside of programming and IT, but they would still fall under the broader definition of “working in tech.” So let’s put it this way: I’d probably still be solving technical problems.’

My role at ByeleX

I have been working at ByeleX since 2007, where I started as a junior Graphic Designer and have since progressed to Digital Designer. My work is varied: I design and optimise websites (mainly in WordPress) and applications using tools such as Figma, and I also create offline designs such as posters, flyers and banners. It remains special to see something grow from an idea to a tangible result.

What drives me is how I have continued to grow over the years. When I started, I never imagined I would enjoy working here for so long. That is mainly due to the wonderful team — colleagues who not only make the work enjoyable, but also inspiring and supportive.

I am proud that I remain curious about new technologies, such as the rise of AI. Where will this take us? Maybe we will soon be working with holographic interfaces!
That future intrigues me, and I like to think about how design plays a role in it.

I continue to challenge myself by exploring new tools and investigating how technology can contribute to meaningful designs. Developing applications in particular gives me a lot of satisfaction: creating something that didn’t exist before and bringing it to life for the end user. That’s the best part of my job.

Challenges and ambitions

Over the years, I have grown from an executive designer to someone who independently leads projects, contributes ideas to concepts, and bridges the gap between technology and design. In the future, I want to continue developing at the intersection of design and technology and to translate ideas into strong digital products.

The magic of bringing a concept to life continues to inspire me.

Leisure time and passions

In my spare time, I like to be active. Dancing is my outlet — it relaxes me, gives me energy, and allows me to be creative, for example by coming up with choreographies. I also enjoy participating in social activities, such as carnival. Every year, we join in with great enthusiasm and enjoy dressing up.

Personal life

The most important thing in my life is my family. I am grateful for the warm, loving home we have together. It gives me peace, balance and strength — something I carry with me in everything I do, both privately and professionally.

Mijn rol bij ByeleX

Sinds 2007 werk ik bij ByeleX, waar ik begon als junior Graphic Designer en inmiddels ben doorgegroeid tot Digital Designer. Mijn werk is veelzijdig: ik ontwerp en optimaliseer websites (vooral in WordPress) en applicaties met tools als Figma, en maak daarnaast offline ontwerpen zoals posters, flyers en banners. Het blijft bijzonder om iets te zien groeien van idee tot tastbaar resultaat.

Wat me drijft, is hoe ik door de jaren heen ben blijven groeien. Toen ik begon, had ik nooit gedacht hier zó lang met zoveel plezier te werken. Dat komt vooral door het geweldige team — collega’s die het werk niet alleen leuk maken, maar ook inspirerend en ondersteunend.

Ik ben trots dat ik nieuwsgierig blijf naar nieuwe technologieën, zoals de opkomst van AI. Waar brengt dit ons? Misschien werken we straks met holografische interfaces! Die toekomst intrigeert me, en ik denk graag mee over hoe design daarin een rol speelt.

Ik blijf mezelf uitdagen door nieuwe tools te verkennen en te onderzoeken hoe technologie kan bijdragen aan betekenisvolle ontwerpen. Vooral applicaties ontwikkelen geeft me veel voldoening: iets creëren dat er nog niet was en het tot leven brengen voor de eindgebruiker. Dat is het mooiste aspect van mijn werk.

Uitdagingen en ambities

Door de jaren heen ben ik gegroeid van uitvoerend designer naar iemand die zelfstandig projecten leidt, meedenkt in concepten en de brug slaat tussen techniek en vormgeving.
In de toekomst wil ik me verder ontwikkelen op het snijvlak van design en technologie en ideeën te vertalen naar sterke digitale producten.

Vrije tijd en passies

In mijn vrije tijd ben ik graag in beweging. Dansen is voor mij dé uitlaatklep — het ontspant, geeft energie, en ruimte voor creativiteit onder meer door het bedenken van choreografieën. Ook doe ik graag mee met sociale activiteiten, zoals carnaval. Elk jaar zijn we van de partij, met veel enthousiasme en verkleedplezier.

Persoonlijk leven

Het belangrijkste in mijn leven is mijn gezin. Ik ben dankbaar voor het warme, liefdevolle thuis dat we samen hebben. Dat geeft me rust, balans en kracht — iets wat ik meeneem in alles wat ik doe, zowel privé als professioneel.

Clair Wermers about a MiCAR licence for Byecoin

As a result of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR), many parties offering services related to cryptocurrencies in the Netherlands must apply for a licence from the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets. MiCAR is a European regulation, which means that, in principle, the same rules apply in all European countries.

The Netherlands got off to a flying start: the Financial Markets Authority was one of the first regulators in Europe where you could already start the application process online.

However, it is an intensive process; a lot of detailed information about the business processes and organisational structure must be provided. In practice, the rules surrounding the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) — also a European regulation designed to provide greater cyber and ICT protection — often prove to be a stumbling block for parties involved in the application process. In addition, there are far-reaching information obligations under the money laundering rules. It is a puzzle to figure out how parties can comply with these within the possibilities available to them.

Byecoin’s services are unique in that no other party in the Netherlands offers these services and has obtained a licence from the Financial Markets Authority for this purpose.

The Byecoin team is very pragmatic and hands-on, which makes working with them a pleasure. They think in terms of possibilities, and their non-legal perspective is often very enlightening for me. It is also positive that they are willing to discuss certain outstanding issues with the Financial Markets Authority and open them up for debate. That keeps all parties on their toes. Given Byecoin’s unique offering, there are qualifying questions that are worth discussing.

I also find this approach very interesting on a personal level.

I have been a solicitor at CMS for almost twenty years. I advise regulated parties such as funds and brokers on licence applications and ongoing supervision. I also assist these parties in takeover processes or financing rounds. I find developments in the field of tokenisation very exciting.

In recent years, a huge number of rules have been added.

Many new and existing products and services have come under supervision. This often presents market parties with an enormous challenge. It is always a matter of searching for practical applications that are workable. Fortunately, there are often legal possibilities to implement plans within the framework. When that succeeds, it is very satisfying.

Mijn ouders waren softwareontwikkelaars en een van de eerste studenten van de faculteit Toegepaste Wiskunde. Tijdens mijn schooljaren groeide mijn interesse in programmeren en besloot ik net als zij Toegepaste Wiskunde te gaan studeren. Mijn specialisatie was Financiële Wiskunde waarin we actuariële wiskunde en modellen van financiële markten bestudeerden. Dit heeft me veel geholpen om de behoeften van de klant tijdens onze projecten te begrijpen.

In 1997, toen ik nog een derdejaars student was, stelde mijn leraar programmeren me een baan voor bij ByeleX, toentertijd een klein softwarebedrijf. Ik was blij dat ik kon beginnen als Lotus Notes ontwikkelaar en werd lid van het EQS-team, een van de beste producten in de beginjaren van ByeleX.

Van Softwareontwikkelaar tot Directeur van Byelex Oost-Europa

Het leiden van een bedrijf is nooit mijn doel geweest, maar stap voor stap raakte ik meer betrokken bij verschillende ByeleX projecten en administratieve taken. Ook had ik een goede band opgebouwd met de collega’s van ByeleX, dus toen ik het voorstel kreeg om directeur te worden, leek mij dat een logische stap. Ik ging de uitdaging aan.

Team Ervaring

Met de meeste van mijn Nederlandse collega’s werk ik al heel lang samen. Vanaf het begin realiseerde ik me dat we veel dingen gemeen hebben. Wat ik zeker belangrijk vind is de manier waarop zij de balans vinden tussen werk en privé. Onze families zijn erg belangrijk, maar als het nodig is dan is iedereen 24/7 beschikbaar.

Toen ik bij ByeleX begon hadden we een klein team zonder strikte hiërarchie maar gebaseerd op wederzijds respect en verantwoordelijkheid. Deze sfeer beviel me erg goed en ik doe mijn best om dit te behouden.

Op Bezoek in Nederland

In restaurants en winkels viel me de warme en vriendelijke manier van communiceren tussen klanten en personeel op — zo kreeg ik beetje bij beetje een gevoel bij de Nederlandse cultuur. Verschillende keren nodigden mijn Nederlandse collega’s me uit om bij hen thuis te komen eten. Het was onvergetelijk: de gastvrijheid, de tradities en natuurlijk de huisgemaakte maaltijd. Het verbaasde me dat de traditionele Nederlandse keuken bijna dezelfde ingrediënten heeft als die van ons (vlees, aardappelen, sommige groenten), maar dat de smaken anders zijn.

Projecten & Werk

Er is geen speciaal project dat er voor mij uitsprong, ik ben trots op alle projecten die we met ByeleX hebben gedaan. Elk project is teamwork.

Ik vind het vooral leuk als we nieuwe tools of technologieën kunnen uitproberen in een project. Gelukkig gebeurt dat in softwareontwikkeling heel vaak. Soms kan dat een nieuw framework zijn of gewoon een nieuwe versie van de bibliotheek.

Een ander punt dat mij extra energie geeft, is de ervaring dat onze software klanten echt helpt om beter te presteren.

Liqwith Plaza Project

We werken nu aan het Liqwith Plaza project. Het is gebaseerd op een aantal jaren van experimenten en twee eerdere productietestversies van het product. Het heeft een vrij complexe structuur, dus er komt veel ontwikkelingswerk bij kijken. Aan de andere kant staan we voor de uitdaging om het gebruiksvriendelijk te houden voor de klanten. Ik geloof echt dat dit product veel potentie heeft.

Persoonlijk Leven

Ik heb een vrouw en twee zonen van 20 en 13 jaar oud. Mijn oudste zoon is muzikant en speelt contrabas. En mijn jongste is actief zijn weg aan het vinden in deze wereld. Ik steun hem daar graag in en met elkaar leren we verschillende dingen, van gitaar spelen tot de handel in cryptovaluta.

Ik kan niet zeggen dat ik een specifieke hobby heb; misschien geeft mijn beroep me genoeg interesse en voldoening. Ik zwem wel graag. Een paar jaar geleden heb ik een duikbrevet gehaald en nu ben ik op vakanties altijd op zoek naar een mogelijkheid om te duiken.

Er is een gezegde: “Een man moet een boom planten, een huis bouwen en een zoon grootbrengen”. Gelukkig heb ik dat allemaal al gedaan. Nu doe ik het werk dat ik leuk vind zo goed mogelijk.

Wat denk je dat je zou doen als je niet in de IT zou werken?

Ik kan me mezelf nauwelijks voorstellen zonder IT. Ik vind het leuk om te zien hoe grote bouwmachines werken. Misschien zou ik operator van zo’n machine worden.

Career & Background

My parents were software developers, and one of the first students of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics. During my schoolyears my interest in programming grew and I also decided to study Applied Mathematics. My speciality was financial mathematics in which we study actuarial mathematics and models of financial markets. This has helped me a lot in understanding the customer needs during our projects.

In 1997, when I was a 3rd course student, my programming teacher proposed me a job with ByeleX, a small software company. I was happy to start as a Lotus Notes developer and became a member of the EQS team, one the greatest products in ByeleX early years.

From Developer to Director of Byelex Eastern Europe

Company leadership was never my goal but step by step I got more involved in different ByeleX projects and administration tasks. I had also built a good relationship will the colleagues of ByeleX. So, when I got the proposal to become a director, it seemed the natural thing to do. I accepted the challenge.

Team Experience

Nowadays I work with most of my Dutch colleagues for a very long time. From the very start I realised that we have a lot of things in common. I especially like the way in which they find the balance between work and private live. Our families are very important, but when needed everyone is 24/7 available.

When I started at ByeleX we had a small team without strict hierarchy but based on mutual respect and responsibility. I liked this atmosphere a lot and am doing my best to maintain this.

Visiting the Netherlands

In restaurants and shops I experienced the friendly communication between visitors and staff etc. and gradually became acquainted with the Dutch people.

Several times my Dutch colleagues invited me at their homes for dinner. It was memorable: the hospitality, the traditions, and home food of course. It surprised me that the traditional Dutch kitchen has almost the same ingredients as ours (meat, potato, certain vegetables), but the flavours are different.

Projects & Work

There is not a special project that stood out for me, I am proud of all projects we did in ByeleX. Every project is teamwork.

I especially like it when we can try new tools or technologies in a project. Fortunately, in software development that happens quite often. Sometimes that can be a new framework or just a new version of the library.

Another point which gives me extra energy is the experience that our software is really helping customers to perform better.

Liqwith Plaza Project

We are now working on the Liqwith Plaza project. It is based on several years of experiments and two previous production-tested versions of the product. It has quite a complex structure, so there is a lot of development work involved. On the other hand we face the challenge to keep it user-friendly for the customers. I really believe that this product has a lot of potential.

Personal Life

I have a wife and two sons of 20 and 13 years old. My eldest son is musician, playing the contrabass. And my youngest is actively finding his way in this world. I am happy to support him in this and learn different things from guitar playing to crypto-currency trading together.

I can’t say that I have a specific hobby; maybe my profession gives me enough interest and fulfilment. I do like swimming. Several years ago, I obtained a diving license and now on vacations I am always looking for a possibility to dive.

There is a phrase “A man must plant a tree, build a house, and raise a son”. Fortunately, I already did all of it. Now I do the work I like as good as I can.

What do you think you would be doing if you weren’t working in IT?

I hardly imagine myself without IT. I like to watch how big construction machines work. Maybe I would become an operator of such a machine.
