Yahsat, the UAE based satellite operator, has announced the successful trial of a 50Mbps in-flight WiFi connection it claims will “change the way passengers experience air travel across the world.” The trial comes as a result of a partnership between Yahsat, du, Etihad Airways Engineering, Hughes Network Systems and Carlisle Interconnect.

Cisco WiFi Gets a Dose of the ‘Network Intuitive’

Cisco is bringing subscription software packages to its latest enterprise WiFi access points, as it starts to separate "intent-based networking" software licensing from 802.11 hardware sales. Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) first introduced intent-based networking in its Catalyst 9000 switches last summer, referring to the combination as the "network intuitive." A different form of IBN is found in the ACI portfolio.

All eyes on you: what is the future of public surveillance?

Can you imagine trying to explain today’s privacy debate to your grandchildren? I can. It’s awful. I’ll probably have to call it the 2010’s ‘Privacy Wars’ just to keep them on the rug. 2007 won’t be the year of the first iPhone for them, or the beginning of the age of the always-on-everythings that tracked grandpa and his friends around the world from space. They won’t understand what, if anything, about that was considered cause for alarm. Even when I explain what Ashley Madison was.

The split is due to occur on 24 October, after block 491,406 is mined. At this time, the Bitcoin Gold (BTG) protocol will launch. We’ve had Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and now Bitcoin Gold.

Two former Leap Motion employees think they’ve solved the perennial problem of passwords and identity management.
Under the nom de guerre of Redrock Biometrics, the company’s technology is waging war on the world’s legions of identification cards, pin numbers, passwords, and voice identification technologies with a combination of off-the-shelf hardware and proprietary software to identify palm-prints to verify user identity.

The big opportunities in serverless computing

Serverless computing is a type of cloud service where the hosting provider allocates adequate resources for you on the fly rather than making you pay for dedicated servers or capacity in advance. It’s a major technological breakthrough, and we expect to see a significant inflection point soon in this nascent market.
